Genie Roller Replacement: The Denton Owner’s Guide

Genie roller replacement in Denton typically runs $110-$220 installed, and we stock Genie-compatible rollers on the truck so most swaps are done in under an hour. The price you’re quoted is a flat, written number you approve before we touch anything, per Clause 1 of The Haven Standard. Most Denton homeowners catch this issue by ear first: a garage door that suddenly sounds like a shopping cart with a square wheel, coupled with visible wobble in the door as it travels. By the time you hear metal grinding, the roller bearing has usually failed and the wheel itself is chewing into the track.

Which Genie Models This Applies To

Genie garage doors, like most residential doors, ride on rollers that are largely interchangeable across brands, but there’s a Genie-specific gotcha worth knowing. Older Genie door systems, especially those installed in Denton homes built before 2005, often used 7/16-inch roller stems rather than the more common 11/16-inch stems found on newer Genie models like the IntelliG and ReliaG series. If you buy the wrong stem size, the roller will rattle in the hinge tube or won’t seat at all.

We identify the correct part by measuring the old roller’s stem diameter, not by model number alone. Your door’s serial tag, usually on the bottom section or near the hinge at the top, tells us the series, but a caliper on the stem settles it. For Genie specifically, we install OEM-spec nylon rollers with sealed ball bearings when the door calls for them, and quality aftermarket equivalents when OEM isn’t the better dollar. Both are on the truck. We’re an independent service provider, not affiliated with Genie, but we work on their doors daily and also stock parts for LiftMaster and Chamberlain systems.

Signs Your Genie Roller Replacement Is Failing

Signs Your Genie Roller Replacement Is Failing
  • Grinding or scraping during travel – The bearing inside the roller has seized or worn out, so the wheel is dragging instead of rolling. Metal-on-metal contact is what you’re hearing, and it’s shaving material off your track.
  • Visible wobble as the door moves – A worn roller allows lateral play, so the door shifts side to side. You can watch this from the garage floor with the door at eye level mid-travel.
  • Door hesitates or jerks mid-cycle – A flat-spotted or seized roller creates resistance that the opener has to muscle through. In Denton’s summer heat, that resistance gets worse as the metal expands.
  • Accelerated wear on one side of the track – Look at the track itself. If one side shows shiny, grooved metal where the roller has been dragging, that’s the evidence. This is exactly the kind of finding we photograph and put in your documented record.
  • Fraying or separation at the roller wheel edge – Nylon rollers eventually crack or chip, especially after years of North Texas heat cycling. Once the outer surface degrades, the bearing inside starts eating itself.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Denton, Genie roller replacement runs $110-$220 installed, depending on how many rollers we’re swapping and whether the door uses standard or heavy-gauge rollers. Most doors have 10 rollers; pricing covers the full set by default, because replacing only the failed one leaves nine others with identical mileage and wear. The flat written price includes the parts, labor, and a brief track inspection while the door is open. We quote the number before work starts, and that number doesn’t change once we’re in your garage. You also get the documented photo record showing what came out and what went in, per Clause 4 of The Haven Standard, which exists for one reason: you should see the failed part before anyone asks you to pay for a replacement. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the work. If a roller fails prematurely, we come back.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely diagnose a failing roller yourself. Open the garage door to eye level, grab the door with both hands, and try to rock it side to side. Play of more than about an eighth of an inch at a given roller means that roller’s bushing or bearing is beyond saving. What you shouldn’t do is remove a roller from a door under torsion spring tension. The bottom bracket rollers and cables carry load, and when a loaded cable comes off its drum, that’s when people get hurt. If the roller you suspect is anywhere on the bottom section, leave it alone and call us at (940) 398-6880. If it’s a top roller on a standard-lift door, and you’re experienced, it’s a wrench job; if you’re not, the hour we spend on it costs less than a trip to urgent care.
